In this article I'll explain why this mnemonic isn't the slightest bit useful and will discuss other, alternative ways of remembering this tricky grammar point. In French grammar there is a group of verbs that use the auxiliary verb instead of the usual when talking in the past. Most, but not all of these French verbs are to do with movement - to be born and to die are both also included in this group (you could think of them as movement, I suppose).So in French we say je arrived' or 'I have arrived'.
